Day 16: Sunday, Nov. 6 – Oklahoma City to Branson, MO

So the goal for this day was to go more or less half the way to Memphis. I had the option to stop at a campground in a small city south of the I-40, and I had thought of Mena, AK initially, but on a stop at a gas station yesterday, an older woman had mentioned Brandon, MO which was a nice little city with lot of music related shows and attractions, so I thought I’d rather somewhere with some form of life than in the middle of some natural park with the company of bears, wolves, elephants, kangaroos or anything else.

So first step was Tulsa, and I stopped for some breakfast at a Waffle House after passing the city. That was my first waffle house breakfast and I liked it, despite the fact I rarely have more than bread for my breakfast. Waffles, scrambled eggs and some potatoes was an interesting change. (Note as of the 19th of November: I just realize I should probably take pictures of the places where I stop to eat/drink – going to do that from now on)

After Tulsa, the highway became narrower and with quite some twisties, which was a welcome change from the interstates experience. I was not totally confident at places when I noticed some gravels in corners frequently, which I was going through around 40-50 mph. I sometimes feel like I already forgot my experience at the Pitt Meadows track days, and hesitate in leaning too much… all the more with that load of luggage I carry along…

I finally reached the little motel on the side of Branson, Missouri at the end of the afternoon, and went for a ride through the city, full of attractions parks and show houses, the latter about music artists. Then I came to the older part of the city, the historic downtown, and went to do some shopping when I realized I had forgotten my wallet at the motel. I had to either return there OR not buy anything and go to Starbucks, since I still had my phone with me wth the Starbucks app. Choosing was quick 🙂

After which, I went back to the motel, grabbed my wallet and went back to downtown for some food and beer. I had noticed an Irish pub, so I went there and tried the Shefferd’s Pie with a Guinness on tap… Guinness was good, the pie… not so convincing. Also quite missing the energy for an Irish pub… nevermind, it was just a small city in the middle of nowhere, what else to expect?img_4207
