Days 33 & 34: Aguascalientes to Guadalajara

After a short 2.5-hour ride from Aguascalientes, we arrived in Guadalajara in the early afternoon. We stayed at the Expo Inn, which cost us 530 pesos (~37 CAD) for what was one of the cleanest rooms we have had so far. The room had all the amenities we could hope for, WiFi that was good enough for streaming Netflix, and the hotel also had a closed parking lot secured by a garage door and high concrete walls – perfect for stress-free overnight bike parking.

We were able to check in early so we unloaded the bike, got cleaned up, and went to a mall that was close to the hotel and had a Starbucks inside (surprise!). After a nice lunch at the Chili’s restaurant in the mall and a coffee at you-know-where, we went to see a movie as we hadn’t gone for a movie date since we left Vancouver.

We decided to see Annabelle: Creation and were lucky that they had a screening in English with Spanish subtitles at a reasonable time because dubbed movies are weird. Even if the movie is in a language we’ve never heard, authenticity is preferred.

After the movie, we had a simple dinner at Subway and then returned to our room for some Netflix and remote work before calling it a night.

Of course…

The next day, we decided to visit the historic center of Guadalajara, which was a short bike-ride away. The day was warm without being too hot for walking around, the streets were busy without being too chaotic to enjoy the sights, and the city itself was quite modern while retaining its historic beauty and charm.

After lunch at the Starbucks in the city, we did a bit more sight-seeing and then returned to the same mall we had gone to the before for another movie. This time, we watched The Dark Tower and, as before, in English with Spanish subtitles. Post-movie dinner was at KFC before heading back to our temporary home for the night.
