Days 35 & 36: Going Indian and Fancy-pants in Guadalajara

Our third day in Guadalajara was a low-key one with most of the day spent in our room for remote work and blogging. We did take a lunch break and decided to get some Indian food at Goa, a restaurant that was quite close to our hotel.

The food was not as spicy as we typically like our Indian food; however, everything tasted so delicious that we didn’t mind at all. We ordered masala lamb and chicken korma, which came with saffron rice, and we also got an order of aloo paratha (flatbread stuffed with spicy potatoes) on the side. Phil got a drink called “Bollywood” that was similar to a sangria and I got masala chai because tea to me is like a banana to a minion.

After lunch, we returned to our room for more Netflix and work for the rest of the evening and only took a quick break for burgers at Burger King for dinner.

Delicious masala chai – almost as good as Mom and Dad’s!

Remember when the visor on Phil’s helmet broke? Well, after trying many different ways to fix it and make it work and failing, he decided to lay the helmet to rest and get a new one so we made another trip to the mall close to our hotel on the following day. There was a store there that sold a wide variety of AGV helmets and various other riding gear.

Phil picked one of the basic full-face helmets with a fun print. The great thing about the new helmet (that the old HJC one lacked) was that, not only did it include an anti-fog screen, the manufacturer sold the parts holding the visor separately so you don’t have to play necromancer with a broken helmet and can easily fix it.

The helmet with the spare parts came to 6700 pesos (~475 CAD), which is more than we would have liked to spend; however, it was a necessity and we didn’t have more viable options.

After a lunch consisting of salads at Chili’s, we decided to head to a different mall that was about 20 minutes away and had more stores. From the looks of it, Plaza Andares is the place where Guadalajara’s elite shop because it contained stores like Louis Vuitton and Tiffany & Co. among various others of a similar price range. Oh, and the guards outside the entrance? Dressed in bullet-proof vests and carrying rifles. Intense 😐

P.F. Chang’s – we need one in Vancouver… please and thanks

Someone’s getting sleepy…

We had drinks at Starbucks, explored the mall, and then returned to our room for more Netflix and work, only taking a break for a quick dinner at KFC. Looks like we’re settling into a routine here. Who would’ve thought that could happen while traveling?
